Important initiatives, to promote trade relations between Italy and Ecuador, have been undertaken by APICES, the Association of Freelance Professionals and Enterprises for Economic and Social Cooperation, under coordination of its president, Mr. Massimiliano Albanese, the Managing Partner of AMP Law and Tax Firm.

Short interview released by Mr. Albanese at the editorial team of the newsletter of National Secretariat for Communications of Ecuador.

Last July 2019 a delegation of the Ecuadorian Government, led by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Lenín Moreno Garcés, was hosted in Rome, accompanied on his trip to Italy by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. José Valencia, and the Minister of Industry and Trade, Hon. Ivàn Ontaneda Berrù.

Mr. Albanese, who had already started, in the weeks before, some trade negotiations of interest to the Italian-Ecuadorian Binational Chamber of Commerce, personally accompanied Minister Ontaneda Berrù to a meeting with the top management of Salini Impregilo SpA.

This very big Italian company, a world leader in the field of design and construction of large infrastructures, could become a real reference point for the Ecuadorian Government for the development of the country.

In parallel to the business meetings, the Association chaired by Mr. Albanese organized a magnificent networking evening, on the panoramic rooftop terrace of the charming Grand Hotel Marriott Flora in Rome, during which President Moreno Garcés offered an interesting presentation of Ecuador to a large audience of entrepreneurs.

Beyond the recent news of local vicissitudes, linked to the contingency of internal issues, to be considered secondary to the major general economic issues, the country is experiencing a season of strong renewal and development, ready to position itself on the international scene as a land of opportunities for foreign investment.

Italy is a strategic partner for Ecuador, with excellent bilateral relations within the broader framework of the Multiparty Agreements with the European Union, to which the South American country has adhered. There are excellent conditions for cooperation: Ecuador is ready to welcome Italian and European companies, offering them excellent conditions and real business opportunities.

Very rich in natural resources, especially oil and mining (copper, molybdenum, gold, silver and zinc are the main extractions), it has large agricultural production: it is the world's leading exporter of bananas, the eighth largest exporter of cocoa, with great potential also in the floriculture sector and the production of coffee and sugar.

It enjoys a fair economic stability, having adopted the US dollar as its national currency, with an excellent tax system rich in benefits, a legal system now aligned with international standards and a judiciary system totally independent from political power. In 2019, the International Monetary Fund itself and the World Bank considered the country worthy of over 10 billion dollars.

The strengths of the Ecuadorian industry are the petrochemical, textile, pharmaceutical and cement sectors. The tourism industry is also relevant: Ecuador is in fact one of the most interesting tourist destinations in the South American region, with the capital Quito declared World Heritage Site together with the magnificent Galapagos Islands, where Darwin developed his theories on evolution.

With 26 protected areas, it is the 17th country with the greatest biodiversity on the planet (1.640 species of birds, 4.500 butterflies, 345 reptiles, 358 amphibians and 258 mammals).

In this inspiring socio-economic panorama, the AMP Law and Tax Firm, also availing itself of the extensive network of top institutional relations of the APICES Association, accredited as the direct interlocutor with the Government of the country, will be able to offer to its clients strategic advice in the legal, tax, financial, industrial and commercial fields, in order to take advantage of the best opportunities offered by Ecuador.
